Problem

altimate-code auth logout → "altimate-backend" removed only the auth.json entry. Browser sign-in also saves the gateway key to ~/.altimate/altimate.json, and the provider loader and all workspace calls (api-client, state, identity, memory/skill sync, link, datamate) read that file first. After sign-out the key stayed on disk and still worked, so delegated runs (e.g. /altimate-code:altimate from Claude Code) kept sending requests as the signed-out user. On a shared machine, the next person's runs go out under the previous user's identity.

Fix

  • AltimateApi.signOut(projectDir): removes MCP entries in the global and project config whose Authorization header is exactly Bearer <saved key> (standalone datamate add writes the key there), then deletes ~/.altimate/altimate.json. CLI logout and TUI /logout both call it and list what they removed. Entries in other projects' config files aren't reachable; the follow-up is to stop saving the key in MCP headers.

  • providers.ts: logging out of altimate-backend calls signOut (via cliTry; on failure it names the file to delete manually instead of reporting "Logout successful").

  • providers.ts: the logout picker lists altimate-backend when only altimate.json exists (credentials pasted in the TUI dialog). Before, the CLI reported "No credentials found" and gave no way to sign out.

  • provider-credentials.tsx: TUI /logout also removes the auth.json entry (with throwOnError, so a failure shows an error toast). A pasted url::instance::key there would otherwise keep the provider loader's fallback path working.

After sign-out, workspace calls hit NotConfiguredError ("Altimate credentials not configured — sign in first.").

Not in scope

The key is only removed locally; it is not revoked on the server. Revoking it at sign-out needs a backend endpoint.

Testing

  • New CLI tests in test/cli/providers-logout.test.ts cover browser sign-in (both stores), file-only credentials, and MCP entry removal (an unrelated entry is kept). It fails on main (altimate.json still present) and passes with this change.
  • bun test test/cli test/upstream/fork-feature-guards.test.ts: 1187 pass. 4 failures in test/cli/run/{json-output,budget-finalization}.test.ts also fail on main and are unrelated.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Logging out of the Altimate backend removes saved credentials from both Altimate settings and the shared authentication store, while preserving credentials for other providers.
    • Logout removes remote MCP servers with a matching authorization key from global and current-project configurations. Other project configurations remain unchanged.
    • Command-line and interface logout report which entries were removed. If the saved key cannot be read, logout fails without deleting credentials.
  • Documentation
    • Added instructions for signing out of the Altimate LLM Gateway, including which configurations are affected and when sessions may need to be restarted.

`altimate-code auth logout` for `altimate-backend` only dropped the
`auth.json` entry. Browser sign-in also writes the key to
`~/.altimate/altimate.json`, which the provider loader and every
workspace call read first, so the signed-out user's key kept working.

- Call `AltimateApi.clearCredentials()` when logging out of `altimate-backend`
- List `altimate-backend` in the logout picker when only `altimate.json`
exists (TUI paste dialog), so it can be signed out from the CLI
- TUI `/logout` also removes the `auth.json` entry, so a pasted
`url::instance::key` no longer keeps the provider loader's fallback live
- Test both the browser sign-in and file-only cases

CLI and TUI logout now call Altimate sign-out. Sign-out removes matching remote MCP entries from global and current-project configuration, then clears saved credentials. The logout flows also remove the altimate-backend auth-store entry and report removed MCP entries.

Changes: Altimate sign-out

Layer / File(s) Summary
Remove matching MCP entries and clear credentials
packages/opencode/src/altimate/api/client.ts, packages/opencode/test/altimate/sign-out.test.ts
signOut(projectDir) scans global configuration and project configuration directories through the Git root, or filesystem root outside Git. It removes remote entries whose authorization header exactly matches the saved key, then clears credentials and returns removed entry names and paths. Tests cover configuration scope, unreadable credentials, and absent credentials.

The CLI offers Altimate logout when credentials exist and reports removed MCP entries. The TUI includes removed entry names in its success toast. Tests cover credential and MCP entry removal and preservation of unrelated credentials and entries. Documentation describes cleanup scope and session behavior.

Logout now removes the saved gateway key and matching MCP entries across the project, ancestor and global configs, and it fails closed when the key cannot be read. A few edge cases can still leave the key in a config after logout reports success: an inaccessible credential file, a lowercase authorization header, and explicitly configured config paths. These are narrow and mostly affect hand-written setups, so the change is mergeable with follow-up.

Thanks, this fixes the reported bug. After providers logout altimate-backend, new processes no longer read ~/.altimate/altimate.json, and I confirmed locally that the new CLI test fails on main and passes here. Requesting changes for one remaining path that still authenticates after sign-out:

  • Major: standalone datamate MCP entries in altimate-code.json store Authorization: Bearer <gateway key>, and logout doesn't touch them (see providers.ts:650).

Minors (none block on their own):

  • A failed file clear gives no next step. The error is surfaced, not silent.
  • TUI auth.remove without throwOnError can show a false success (edge case).
  • Docs say requests stop, but running processes keep the key in memory until restart (safe to do in a follow-up).
  • clearCredentials deletes the whole file, including mcpServerUrl (pre-existing).
  • Docs don't give the Windows path (cosmetic).
  • Failure-path and TUI tests are missing (test-only).

Verified OK: other providers' logout is unaffected, altimate-backend has no env-var path, workspace readers re-read the file on each call and fail closed, caches hold only credential digests, telemetry identity doesn't use the gateway key, and Windows path handling is fine.

Major: datamate MCP entries keep the gateway key on disk and keep authenticating after logout

In standalone/CLI mode, datamate add (src/altimate/tools/datamate.ts:304,439) writes a datamate-<id> entry into altimate-code.json (project or global config) via addMcpToConfig. That entry includes headers.Authorization: "Bearer <gateway key>" from AltimateApi.buildMcpConfig (src/altimate/api/client.ts:371-383). This branch removes altimate.json and the auth-store entry but leaves those MCP entries alone. Every new session reconnects them with the signed-out user's key, which is the shared-machine case this PR sets out to fix. A project-scope entry can also end up committed.

Suggested fix: on altimate-backend logout, strip the Authorization header from (or remove) MCP entries that carry the datamate provenance stamp or the datamate- prefix, in global and current-project config. At minimum, warn and list them. Longer term, don't persist the key in MCP headers; resolve it from altimate.json at connect time.

Fixed in 2a54c9e. New AltimateApi.signOut(projectDir) removes MCP entries in the global config and the current project config whose Authorization header is exactly Bearer <saved key>, then deletes altimate.json. CLI logout and TUI /logout both call it and list what they removed. Matching on the exact key, not the datamate- prefix, leaves user-written entries alone. A new CLI test covers project + global entries and checks that an entry with a different key is kept.

Limitation (documented): config files in other projects can't be reached from here. The full fix is to stop saving the key in MCP headers and resolve it from altimate.json at connect time; I'll do that as a follow-up.

Minor (not a blocker): a failed clear stops the logout, and the message gives no next step

If rm throws (EACCES/EPERM, or a locked file on Windows), cliTry fails the effect and authSvc.remove never runs. The failure is surfaced correctly: non-zero exit and no "Logout successful". Reordering wouldn't de-authenticate, because altimate.json would still exist and the loader reads it first.

Suggestion: include the file path and a "delete it manually" hint in the message. Optionally, still remove the auth-store entry and report the partial failure.

Fixed in 2a54c9e: the error now names the file and says to delete it manually. I kept the order (file first, then the auth-store entry). As you noted, removing the auth entry first wouldn't sign anyone out while the file still exists, and keeping the entry means a retry still lists the provider.

Minor (not a blocker, edge case): TUI /logout shows success even if this call fails

The SDK client returns { error } and does not throw unless throwOnError: true is passed. So a failed removal skips the catch and the user still sees "Signed out of Altimate LLM Gateway". A pasted url::instance::key entry would then keep loader path 2 working.

Fixed in 2a54c9e: auth.remove(..., { throwOnError: true }), so a failure reaches the catch and shows the error toast.

Minor (not a blocker, safe to do in a follow-up): "requests stop" overstates the result for running processes

CLI logout doesn't reach an already-running serve/TUI process. Its provider state keeps the loaded key in memory until it is restarted or disposed. Suggested wording: "new sessions stop authenticating; restart running sessions or use /logout inside them." Combined with the MCP entries flagged on providers.ts:650, this sentence is currently not fully accurate.

Minor (not a blocker, pre-existing): logout deletes the whole altimate.json, not just the key

AltimateApi.clearCredentials() runs rm on the file. That also removes a hand-set mcpServerUrl, and a hand-written file that uses ${env:...} references. Browser sign-in and the paste dialog already rewrite the file without mcpServerUrl, so this isn't new data loss. Still, say so here and in the clearCredentials JSDoc (e.g. "deletes ~/.altimate/altimate.json"), or rewrite the file without the credential fields instead.

Agreed, this was already true before this PR. I didn't change the behavior, but the clearCredentials JSDoc now says it deletes the whole file (including mcpServerUrl), and the docs say the file is deleted.

Minor (not a blocker, test-only): add failure-path and TUI coverage

This test does fail on main: with providers.ts reverted, altimate.json is still present. Not covered yet:

  • clear fails (read-only dir): non-zero exit, message shown, auth entry kept
  • TUI logout() removes both stores and shows the error toast on failure
  • altimate.json with mcpServerUrl or corrupt JSON
  • persisted datamate-* MCP entries after logout

Added a CLI test for MCP entry cleanup in 2a54c9e (it fails on the previous commit). Leaving the clear-failure and TUI logout() tests for a follow-up: the TUI plugin has no test harness yet, and a read-only-directory test is unreliable across CI platforms.

Review notes that don't fit a single diff line, plus nits:

  • Nit: providers.ts:613: the (api) label on a file-only credential is misleading; (altimate.json) would be clearer.
  • Nit: providers.ts:653: name the file in the error prefix, e.g. Failed to remove ~/.altimate/altimate.json: .
  • Contract note: the picker now lists altimate-backend whenever altimate.json exists, including hand-maintained files or files written by CI (e.g. github/review/action.yml), and logout deletes them. That looks intended, but it's worth mentioning in the release notes.
  • Follow-up (not in this PR): the key is only removed locally. As the description says, server-side revocation needs a backend endpoint.

…teway key

Standalone `datamate add` writes `Authorization: Bearer <gateway key>` into
MCP entries in `altimate-code.json`, so new sessions kept connecting as the
signed-out user after `auth logout`.

- Add `AltimateApi.signOut(projectDir)`: removes MCP entries in the global
and project config whose `Authorization` header is exactly the saved key,
  then deletes `~/.altimate/altimate.json`
- CLI `auth logout altimate-backend` and TUI `/logout` both use it and
  report the removed entries
- CLI error names the credential file and says to delete it manually
- TUI `/logout` passes `throwOnError` so a failed auth-store removal is
reported instead of showing "Signed out"
- Docs: Windows path, removed MCP entries, running sessions need a restart
- Test MCP entry removal (project + global, unrelated entry kept)

Addressed in ff2134c. Keeping the auth-store entry on failure is deliberate: the file and the entry stay together, so the retry still lists the provider and can match the key. The error no longer suggests deleting altimate.json by hand; it says to fix the cause and run logout again.

[🔴 HIGH] If reading or modifying the MCP config files throws an error (e.g., due to file permission issues or invalid JSON structures causing listMcpInConfig or removeMcpFromConfig to throw), the signOut function will terminate prematurely. This prevents clearCredentials() from executing, meaning the user would remain logged in and unable to sign out.

Consider wrapping the MCP cleanup logic in a try...finally block to guarantee that the primary sign-out action (clearCredentials()) is always executed regardless of whether the secondary MCP cleanup succeeds.

Not taking this one: it conflicts with the fail-closed behavior asked for in the other threads. If MCP cleanup fails and finally still deletes altimate.json, the only copy of the key is gone, and the leftover entries can never be matched again, yet they still authenticate as the signed-out user. In ff2134c a cleanup failure exits non-zero with the reason, keeps the file and the auth-store entry, and a re-run after fixing the cause finishes the sign-out.

Re-review at 2a54c9e. Thanks for the quick turnaround. Most of the earlier findings are addressed: the TUI now uses throwOnError, the docs cover running sessions and the Windows path, the JSDoc says the whole file is deleted, and the error message names the file. CI is green, and the new MCP cleanup test fails without the fix.

Requesting changes because two paths still let the old key authenticate after a logout that reports success:

  • Major: logout from a subdirectory misses datamate entries at the worktree root, where datamate add writes them (providers.ts:655, and the TUI at provider-credentials.tsx:89).
  • Major: when the saved key can't be read, the MCP cleanup is skipped and the key file is still deleted, so the leftover entries can never be matched afterwards (client.ts:160).

Minor findings, none of which block: the remediation message when an MCP config write fails, hand-written entries with the same key being removed in full, and tests for these failure modes. Status of each earlier finding and the nits are in the PR comment.

Major: logout from a subdirectory misses the datamate entries at the worktree root

datamate add writes project entries to resolveConfigPath(projectRoot()), and projectRoot() is Instance.worktree (datamate.ts:27-30,307). By default that is <git-root>/.altimate-code/altimate-code.json. The config loader walks .altimate-code dirs up from the session directory to the worktree (ConfigPaths.directories), so a session started in a subfolder still loads that entry. findProjectConfigPaths only looks in projectDir itself.

Steps: datamate add (entry goes to <root>/.altimate-code/altimate-code.json), cd <root>/analytics, then altimate providers logout altimate-backend. signOut removes nothing, deletes altimate.json, and prints "Logout successful". New sessions under <root> still send the old key. I reproduced this by calling AltimateApi.signOut(<root>/models/staging) directly: it returned [] and the key stayed in the root config. The TUI has the same gap through api.state.path.directory (provider-credentials.tsx:89). This is the earlier major's own path, and the docs promise "current project config". A project in a subfolder of a larger repo is a common layout.

Suggested fix: start the scan at the worktree root, the same as projectRoot() (git root, falling back to the directory outside git). Ideally scan every directory from cwd up to the root, the way the loader does. In the TUI, use api.state.path.worktree !== "/" ? api.state.path.worktree : api.state.path.directory. In the CLI, use git rev-parse --show-toplevel or the same project lookup. Add a test that runs from a subdirectory with the entry in <root>/.altimate-code/altimate-code.json.

Fixed in ff2134c. signOut now checks the project config in every directory from the starting directory up to the git root (the nearest ancestor with .git), or only the starting directory outside git. That matches where datamate add writes (projectRoot()). CLI and TUI both go through signOut, so both are covered. New unit test test/altimate/sign-out.test.ts signs out from repo/models/staging and checks that the entry in repo/.altimate-code/altimate-code.json is removed and a config above the git root is left alone. The test fails on 2a54c9e.

Major: an unreadable key skips the MCP cleanup, deletes the key file, and reports success

getCredentials() errors become undefined, so the cleanup loop is skipped and clearCredentials() then deletes the only copy of the key. After that, nothing can match the leftover MCP entries.

Steps: altimate.json has "altimateApiKey": "${env:X}" and X is not set in the shell that runs logout, or the file is corrupt. The datamate entries were written with the resolved key earlier. Calling signOut directly removed nothing, deleted altimate.json, and left the key in the MCP config, and the CLI printed "Logout successful". This is rare, but it is a silent, unrecoverable false success, which is the outcome this PR exists to prevent.

Suggested fix: fail closed. If the file exists but the key can't be read, keep the file and raise an error that says what to fix. Alternatively, fall back to the raw altimateApiKey text, or to remote entries with an x-datamate-id header, and warn. Add a test for it.

Fixed in ff2134c: sign-out now fails closed. If altimate.json exists but getCredentials() throws (corrupt JSON, unresolved ${env:…}, schema failure), signOut throws could not read the saved key from <path> (<reason>); fix the file and sign out again… and leaves the file and the MCP entries as they are. A missing file is still a no-op. Covered by a unit test (unresolved ${env:…}) that fails on 2a54c9e.

Minor (not a blocker): when the MCP config write fails, the message gives the wrong next step

With a read-only project config, signOut throws EACCES ... altimate-code.json and keeps altimate.json. The user then sees "Failed to sign out of Altimate (if ~/.altimate/altimate.json remains, delete it manually): EACCES ...altimate-code.json". If they follow that advice, the key stays in the MCP config. The auth-store entry also stays, because the code skips that removal when signOut fails. A re-run can then no longer match the key. The failure is surfaced (non-zero exit, credentials kept), so this doesn't block. Suggestion: when the error comes from a config file, tell the user to fix that file's permissions and re-run, rather than to delete altimate.json.

Addressed in ff2134c. The CLI message is now Failed to sign out of Altimate; fix the cause below and run logout again: <error>, and it no longer tells users to delete altimate.json. Because the file and the auth-store entry are both kept on failure, a re-run after fixing permissions can still match and remove every copy of the key.

Minor (not a blocker, edge input): a hand-written remote MCP entry that carries the same key is deleted in full

Any remote entry whose Authorization is Bearer <key> is removed, including a user entry with its own URL and extra headers. The docs and JSDoc say only datamate servers are removed and user-authored entries are left alone. The removal is listed by name and path, and the entry held the signed-out key, so this doesn't block. Suggestion: remove only entries that have the datamate stamp (x-datamate-id), and for any other entry strip just the Authorization header. Or reword the docs to "any remote MCP server whose Authorization header carries the saved key".

Minor (not a blocker, test-only): add tests for the new failure modes

I confirmed this test fails when signOut is swapped back to clearCredentials. These cases are still missing:

  • Logout from a subdirectory, with the entry in <root>/.altimate-code/altimate-code.json. That file is datamate add's default target; this fixture uses <cwd>/altimate-code.json.
  • An unreadable key (an env reference that is unset, or corrupt JSON) while an MCP entry exists.
  • A failed MCP config write: check the exit code, the message, and that both files are kept. You can make this fail on every platform without chmod, for example by making the config path a directory.

Deferring the TUI logout() test is reasonable, since there is no plugin harness yet.

Re-review notes that don't fit a single diff line, plus nits.

Status of the earlier findings at 2a54c9e

Earlier finding Status
Major: datamate MCP entries keep the key after logout Partly fixed. Entries in cwd and the global config are removed. The two new majors (subdirectory, unreadable key) remain. Leaving other projects' configs to a follow-up that stops persisting the key is a reasonable deferral.
Failed clear gives no next step Fixed as asked (the new MCP-write case is the inline minor on providers.ts:654)
TUI auth.remove without throwOnError Fixed
clearCredentials deletes the whole file Fixed (documented)
Docs overstated what happens to running sessions Fixed
Failure-path / TUI tests Partly fixed. The MCP test was added. The TUI deferral holds. The clear-failure test is still missing, and it doesn't need chmod.
Windows path in docs Fixed
Nit: (api) picker label Still open
Nit: name the file in the error prefix Fixed

Nits

  • providers.ts:613: for a file-only credential, (altimate.json) would tell the user where the credential lives better than (api).
  • The exact Authorization match misses a lowercase authorization header and {env:...} / ${env:...} header values. Only hand-written entries can look like that; datamate add always writes the literal key under Authorization.
  • removeMcpFromConfig uses the error-tolerant parseTree, so during cleanup it rewrites a config file that has JSON syntax errors. That helper already behaved this way before this PR; addMcpToConfig refuses in the same case.

Ready for re-review at 4d07adee36. Merged main; the merge commit contains only conflict resolution.

Major findings from the last round

  • Logout from a subdirectory (ff2134cf46, extended in 4d07adee36): signOut now checks the same project config files a session started in the current directory loads, mirroring ConfigPaths. That means every directory up to the git root, every parent directory outside git (where the worktree is /), and ~/.altimate-code, plus the global config. This corrects my thread replies, which said "only the starting directory outside git"; self-review found the loader walks every parent in that case.
  • Unreadable key (ff2134cf46): sign-out fails closed. If altimate.json exists but the key can't be read, logout exits non-zero, keeps the file and MCP entries, and says what to fix.

Minor findings

  • The CLI error message no longer tells users to delete altimate.json; it says to fix the cause and run logout again. The file and the auth-store entry are kept on failure so the retry can match every copy of the key.
  • Docs describe matching by Authorization header, which configs are checked, and the unreadable-key failure.
  • Declined, with reasons in the threads: always deleting the file via try/finally (it conflicts with fail-closed), and narrowing removal to datamate-shaped entries (any entry carrying the signed-out key still authenticates as that user).

Tests

  • New test/altimate/sign-out.test.ts covers: logout from a subdirectory (stops at the git root), outside git with ~/.altimate-code, an unreadable key, and no credential file. The subdirectory and unreadable-key cases fail on 2a54c9e.
  • Not added: a test for a config file that can't be written. chmod-based tests aren't reliable on Windows or on CI containers running as root. That path is reported as a non-zero exit with the file and key kept.
  • TUI /logout still has no test because there's no TUI plugin test harness.

Follow-up (separate PR): stop writing the key into MCP headers and resolve it from altimate.json at connect time. That removes the "other projects' configs" limitation.

Give each test its own temporary directory.

All cases share tmpRoot, and each afterEach removes it. Concurrent execution can delete another case’s files. Create the root inside each test with await using tmp = await tmpdir(), and derive that case’s paths from tmp.path. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Based on learnings, new packages/opencode/test/altimate/ files should use per-test tmpdir() instead of module-level os.tmpdir() with beforeEach and afterEach. As per coding guidelines, temporary-directory fixtures should use await using for cleanup.

FSUtil.Service.up walks to the filesystem root when no stop value is provided. ConfigPaths.directories therefore loads ancestor .altimate-code and .opencode directories outside Git. projectConfigDirs checks only the session directory in that case, so logout can delete altimate.json while a loaded ancestor MCP entry retains the bearer key.

Match projectConfigDirs to the loader’s filesystem-root boundary, or fail before deleting credentials when a loaded directory cannot be checked.

Update projectConfigDirs to check every directory returned by
ConfigPaths.directories, including loaded ancestors up to the filesystem root
when no Git stop boundary exists. Before deleting credentials, fail if any
loaded directory cannot be checked.

Distinguish an absent credential file from an inaccessible one.

isConfigured() calls Filesystem.exists(), which uses existsSync(). If an inaccessible existing credential path is reported as false, signOut() returns [] before reading or removing altimate.json. The CLI and TUI then remove the auth-store entry and report success while the credential file remains.

Use a filesystem check that treats only ENOENT and ENOTDIR as absence and propagates permission errors.

Match Authorization header names without case sensitivity.

readMcpEntryFromDisk preserves the stored header name. A hand-written entry with headers.authorization: "Bearer <saved key>" can still authenticate through the MCP HTTP transport, while the exact-property check skips it and deletes the saved credential file. Compare header names case-insensitively while retaining the exact bearer-value check.

[SUGGESTION]: signOut does not scan the OPENCODE_CONFIG / OPENCODE_CONFIG_DIR config sources

configPaths covers the global config and every project directory the loader walks, but not every config source a session loads: ConfigPaths.directories also appends Flag.OPENCODE_CONFIG_DIR (packages/opencode/src/config/paths.ts:49), and Config merges Flag.OPENCODE_CONFIG for every session (packages/opencode/src/config/config.ts:552-555). Either can hold the same datamate mcp entry with Authorization: Bearer <saved key>, so logout can print "Logout successful" while that copy still authenticates. The docs line added in this PR says logout checks "the same config files a session started in the current directory loads", which overstates what this scan does.

Suggestion: include Flag.OPENCODE_CONFIG_DIR in projectConfigDirs() and scan Flag.OPENCODE_CONFIG when it is set, or narrow the docs wording to the locations actually scanned.

Limit the home scan to loaded config directories.

projectConfigDirs seeds Global.Path.home, and findProjectConfigPaths scans root-level ~/altimate-code.json and ~/opencode.json files. The session loader does not load those files for a session in another repository. Keep the home .altimate-code and .opencode directory scan, but exclude home-level files unless Global.Path.home is reached through the project traversal.

A matching entry in a home-level file can therefore be removed from another project’s configuration during logout.

Re-review at 4d07ade. Both majors from the last round are fixed, and I verified them beyond the diff: the new test/altimate/sign-out.test.ts passes here and fails 3 of 4 cases on 2a54c9e, and direct probes of AltimateApi.signOut confirmed the walk stops at a linked worktree's .git file, that a corrupt or env-referenced key fails closed with the file kept, that a read-only or directory-shaped config fails with a non-zero exit and nothing deleted, and that JSONC comments, other settings and non-matching entries survive. CI is green.

Approved. One minor, which does not block:

  • No test for an MCP-config write failure (test/altimate/sign-out.test.ts): test-only. The failure path itself behaves correctly (error surfaced, altimate.json and the auth-store entry kept), and the thread's portable injection (a directory in place of the config file) works on every platform.

The declined items (removing hand-written entries that carry the key; not deleting the file in a finally) are declined for sound reasons. Status of every earlier finding and the nits are in the PR comment.

Minor (not a blocker, test-only): add the MCP-config write-failure case

The chmod objection is fair, but it doesn't cover the portable variant: create a directory at the config path (for example path.join(repo, "altimate-code.json") via fs.mkdir). Filesystem.readText then throws EISDIR on every platform, including Windows and root CI. Assert that signOut rejects, that altimate.json still exists, and that the other configs were not touched. I probed this path at head: it throws and keeps the credential file.

Re-review notes that don't fit a single diff line, plus nits.

Status of the earlier findings at 4d07ade

Earlier finding Status
Major: logout from a subdirectory misses entries at the worktree root Fixed. projectConfigDirs walks from the start directory to the first directory with .git (inclusive; a linked worktree's .git file counts), or to the filesystem root outside git, plus ~/.altimate-code. That matches the config loader's walk and datamate add's projectRoot(). CLI and TUI both go through it.
Major: unreadable key skips cleanup and deletes the file Fixed. Fails closed before any removal or deletion; the message names the file.
Wrong remediation when an MCP config write fails Fixed.
Hand-written entries with the same key removed whole Declined with a reason that holds: any entry sending that bearer key still authenticates as the signed-out user, and the docs now say matching is by Authorization header.
Tests for the new failure modes Partly fixed. Subdirectory, outside-git, unreadable-key and no-file cases are covered and fail on the previous head. The write-failure case is the inline minor (portable without chmod). The TUI deferral holds.
Nit: (api) picker label Still open (providers.ts:613).
Nit: lowercase authorization / env-ref header values Still a nit; only hand-written entries look like that.
Nit: removeMcpFromConfig rewrites files with syntax errors Still a nit; pre-existing helper behaviour.

Round-1 items marked fixed last time are unchanged. The round-1 major is now fixed for every config a session started in the logout directory loads; other projects' configs remain the documented limitation for the follow-up that stops persisting the key.

Nits

  • providers.ts:613: (altimate.json) would tell the user where a file-only credential lives better than (api).
  • test/altimate/sign-out.test.ts: Global.Path.config is a module-load constant that OPENCODE_TEST_HOME doesn't redirect, so the unit test scans the developer's real ~/.config/altimate-code/*.json, and the outside-git case walks the real ancestors of os.tmpdir(). Only an entry whose header is exactly Bearer gateway-test-key could be touched, so this is harmless; a follow-up could make Global.Path.config a getter like home and state.
  • OPENCODE_CONFIG_DIR is merged by the loader but not scanned on logout. datamate add never writes there, so nothing is left behind in practice.
  • providers.ts:662: Effect.orDie(authSvc.remove(provider)) after a successful signOut turns an auth-store write failure into a defect rather than a cliTry message. Pre-existing for every provider and loud rather than silent.
  • signOut also scans root-level altimate-code.json files in intermediate directories, which the loader doesn't merge (it merges root-level opencode.json and the dot-dirs). Harmless over-scan, and those files are where resolveConfigPath can write.

Follow-up (separate PR, as planned): stop writing the key into MCP headers and resolve it from altimate.json at connect time.
